St George’s Day – Child’s Costume in Evolon

by Ruth Morgan | April 20, 2018 | Posted in Evolon

We’ve all heard of a knight in shining armour, but our little model is wearing a tunic made from Evolon! Using one of his t-shirts as a guide, we cut a front and back panel out of a metre piece of Evolon and machine stitched them together at the shoulders. We made a pattern for the cross and then cut out the shape from the remaining Evolon before painting it red with acrylic paint. The cross was machine stitched to the front of the tunic (although we could have attached it by using a self adhesive medium, such as Bondaweb). We left the sides open, but […]

Easter Bunny Ears made with Evolon

by Ruth Morgan | March 23, 2018 | Posted in Evolon

This little bundle of joy is modelling a pair of Evolon bunny ears attached to his own snug fitting white hat.                   Each ear is made from two pieces of Evolon sewn together, with a smaller, dyed layer machine stitched to the front. The inner ear sections were coloured by soaking the Evolon in warm water infused with a tea bag, which produced a lovely soft shade of fawn. If required, stiffener or card can be inserted inside the ears for extra support. Happy Easter to all our customers!

Cow Parsley by Sian Kibblewhite (using Lutradur)

by Ruth Morgan | March 15, 2018 | Posted in Lutradur

Sian is an accomplished textile artist, who specialises in fabric landscapes and takes her inspiration from natural colours and textures. Last summer we featured two pieces of her work on our website, namely ‘Misty Morning’ and ‘Hedgerow’. Here we showcase examples of her work using a new technique Sian learnt at a workshop, featuring white and black Lutradur. In her own words, Sian describes how she made these pictures –- “The background of these two pieces is made of felt using a graduated grey palette. The merino fibres have been carded to get the right mix of colours and then wet felted to achieve the […]

Mothers’ Day Cards using Lutradur

by Ruth Morgan | March 8, 2018 | Posted in Lutradur

There’s still time to make a lovely personalised card for your Mum . . . Lutradur is ideal for card making as it can be painted, stitched, dyed and also printed. Our cards have been decorated with heart shapes cut out of Lutradur 70 and Lutradur 100. Pink acrylic paint was used to colour the Lutradur 70, while all the words and messages have been printed on to Lutradur 100 (which is slightly thicker) using an ink jet printer. So why not show your Mum just how creative you can be!

Little Women made with Evolon Soft

by Ruth Morgan | March 7, 2018 | Posted in Evolon

To make our little maids – 1. Cut keyhole shape pieces out of Evolon Soft (two per doll). 2. Colour the cut pieces with transfer paint to give the dolls their colourful dresses. (For instructions on how to do this, please see our video) 3. To add a design, paint a pattern using transfer paints on to a piece of paper and leave to dry. 4. Overprint the base colour with this design by using a warm iron (same method as for the base colour). 5. Sew on tiny beads for the eyes, a stitch or two for the mouth and a special button for a bag. […]

Valentine Cards with Evolon Soft

by Ruth Morgan | February 12, 2018 | Posted in Evolon

Evolon is ideal for colouring using a Marbling Kit We were so delighted with the results we achieved colouring Evolon with our Marbling Kit from Marbling Art Originals Ltd. (please see our previous blog for details), we decided to make some cards for Valentine’s Day. As Evolon is a very smooth and uniform fabric, the paint takes to it beautifully and provides superb definition of colour and clarity of design, even with the most intricate patterns. We think its even better than painting on to a traditional (woven) material. Evolon for Card Making For the card pictured below, we cut two heart shaped pieces of our […]

Marbling with Evolon

by Ruth Morgan | February 5, 2018 | Posted in Evolon

Marbling Kit Last year we came across this ingenious marbling kit being demonstrated at the Festival of Quilts and were amazed at the fantastic patterns and colours that could be achieved. We ordered a set from Marble Art Originals Ltd (www.marbling4fun.net) and carefully followed the enclosed instructions. (We also found the three videos on their website particularly helpful!). Our first attempts were all done on Evolon and, as you can see, the contrast between the unpainted portions and the coloured sections is quite dramatic. Here are some close-ups . . . We are looking forward to trying marbling on our other fabrics, […]

Poem by Robert Burns (printed on Zeelon Heavy)

by Ruth Morgan | January 19, 2018 | Posted in Zeelon

To celebrate Burns Night on 25th January, we thought it would be a great idea to print one of his poems on to a piece of Zeelon Heavy. We hope you agree, it is a much more versatile fabric than simply using paper or card. It is also possible to print on the heavier weights of Lutradur (for instance 70gms), as an alternative to the Zeelon Heavy shown in our picture. On this occasion, we used a standard inkjet printer, but please be aware we would not recommend the use of a laser printer. if you have any questions, please do […]
