Evolon Pansies for a Pop of Colour

Now that the garden centres are bursting with summer flowers, we felt inspired to try our hand at making some simple pansies.

We chose Evolon for this project as it has a slightly velvety/suede like texture and absorbs colour very well. All we needed was Evolon, some Crayola fibre pens and a little drop of paint.

One of the benefits of using Evolon is that is soaks up the ink so well that it penetrates to the reverse of the fabric – so there’s no need to colour both sides. However, please remember to protect your working surface to avoid staining.

The ink penetrates through to the reverse of the fabric, so there’s no need to colour both sides.

The front petals are now ready for some extra colour and decoration.
A darker coloured fibre pen is used to colour in the very centre of the petals. The ink will naturally run into the main colour, but can encouraged to spread further by lightly spraying it with water.
A darker felt pen is used to accentuate the centre. The added ink will run into the petals to give a soft blurred effect.
A small dab of brightly coloured paint can be seen to have been added to the very centre of the flower.
The two sets of petals are then attached to one another and a small blob of bright all-purpose paint is applied to the centre.
Finally, the two sets of petals and the leaves are combined to form one complete flower.
One complete pansy!

We soon found we were making pansies in all sorts of colour combinations!
