Evolon

Evolon is a totally new and unique material from the manufacturers of Lutradur, it is a white microfilament fabric which is extremely strong, but soft like traditional fabric.

Due to its structure, it is ideal to use as a base cloth for any kind of stitch, it is robust, doesn’t fray and quilts beautifully, giving an interesting textural effect. It is rather similar to a very short piled velvet, but much easier to work with.  It can be burned with a soldering iron- to give the impression of broderie anglaise or cut work.

Like Lutradur it is possible to use just about any type of paint to colour Evolon, and is suitable for use with a wide range of dyes, and dyeing processes.

Spotlight on Evolon

Whether you are new to Evolon or a regular user, here are a few facts about this amazing fabric that you may not know . . . A few insights into the manufacturing process . . . Evolon is a produced using a unique, worldwide patented manufacturing process. It’s production consists of only three components – polyester, polyamide and water. Polyester and polyamide chips are spun into endless filaments,  which are then uniformly laid on a belt. The filaments are then simultaneously split into microfilaments (up to 100 times thinner than a human hair!) and entangled together with high pressure water jets, creating a fabric. No chemical […]

Lutradur Pumpkins with Evolon Stalks

by Ruth Morgan | September 25, 2017 | Posted in Evolon, Lutradur

Why not add a touch of atmosphere to your Halloween celebrations this year with these pumpkins made out of Lutradur and Evolon? We used a set of battery operated fairy lights to illuminate our display (£2.50 from Wilkinsons including batteries) and we hope you like the effect as much as we do. Just imagine how attractive they would look softly glowing in a hall window on a dark and spooky October evening . . . To make the pumpkins we coloured some Lutradur 70gms with orange transfer paint and then drew a circle for each pumpkin using a compass.  Keeping the compass […]

Coffee Cup Sleeve by Wendy Cotterill

by Ruth Morgan | August 7, 2017 | Posted in Evolon, Zeelon

Many coffee shops wrap paper coffee cups with a sleeve to prevent burning your hand, so open out one of these sleeves to use as a template and cut two pieces of Evolon Soft, allowing a 1cm seam allowance all round. Stitch the two pieces together leaving a gap and turn it inside out. Press to complete and machine stitch parallel lines with normal sewing thread. Create either a button and buttonhole to join the two ends, or better still, use some hook and loop (Velcro) tape or pads. This sleeve has been decorated with flowers made out of […]

An Easter Bouquet using Evolon and Lutradur

by Ruth Morgan | April 5, 2017 | Posted in Evolon, Lutradur

Daffodils always seem to herald the start of Spring and are a source of joy and colour at Easter. Our  flowers were made using transfer painted Evolon attached to green garden sticks. The leaves are made from strips of Lutradur 100gsm, which has also been transfer painted. We made these over a year ago using fluted pastry cutters as templates and they still look just as bright and cheerful! You can see our range of Evolon and Lutradur by visiting our online shop.

Christmas Elf Hat

by Ruth Morgan | December 13, 2016 | Posted in Evolon

Elf Hat (& Collar) made from Evolon If you need to dress up a little person (or a big person) for a Christmas or Fancy Dress party, Evolon is an ideal material to use. It is easy to dye and cut to shape and best of all it doesn’t require any hemming. Our little Elf is going to a party later this week and we were able to make this hat and matching collar out of some Evolon which we had previously dyed. He found the bell a little distracting, so we decided to take it off, but otherwise he seemed more than […]

by Ruth Morgan | March 16, 2016 | Posted in Evolon, Lutradur

And how to make them . . . You will need – Evolon Lutradur 100 Copier paper Transfer paint and brushes Fluted pastry cutters Garden sticks Scissors Iron First, using the transfer paints, we coloured some of the Evolon in shades of yellow and orange, leaving some of the material white to give a contrast. We also coloured some […]

by Ruth Morgan | February 4, 2016 | Posted in Evolon

‘Home is where the Heart is’ – Draught Excluder Love maybe in the air this February . . . but no-one likes a draught! The recent windy weather (and the cool breeze around my feet!) prompted me to make this colourful draught excluder using a remnant of blue cloth. The letters and hearts are cut from a piece of Evolon, and then coloured using transfer paints. Evolon is ideal for this sort of decoration as it does not tear or fray, which makes it really quick and easy to work with. To make the lettering, simply print the words from your computer. (I […]
