Evolon

Evolon is a totally new and unique material from the manufacturers of Lutradur, it is a white microfilament fabric which is extremely strong, but soft like traditional fabric.

Due to its structure, it is ideal to use as a base cloth for any kind of stitch, it is robust, doesn’t fray and quilts beautifully, giving an interesting textural effect. It is rather similar to a very short piled velvet, but much easier to work with.  It can be burned with a soldering iron- to give the impression of broderie anglaise or cut work.

Like Lutradur it is possible to use just about any type of paint to colour Evolon, and is suitable for use with a wide range of dyes, and dyeing processes.

Lutradur – Halloween Bats

by Ruth Morgan | October 13, 2015 | Posted in Evolon, Lutradur

How to Make Bats from Lutradur Black For this year’s Halloween, I decided to make some bats to decorate our home. I chose Lutradur Black for this project as it’s lightweight, semi transparent (rather like the wings of a real bat) and it does not tear or fray, plus it holds its shape beautifully. Each bat is made from a double layer of Lutradur Black, stitched across the top, with extra stitching to represent the spines of the wings; then two small oval pieces of material (either Lutradur Black or painted Evolon) one for the top and one for the underside to form the […]

How to use Transfer Paint for Colouring Lutradur, Evolon and Zeelon  Using transfer paint directly from the pot, roughly paint one side of A4 copier paper. One colour per sheet in your chosen colours. (Colours can be blended at the ironing stage). Allow paint to dry fully – don’t worry if the paper curls on drying it will unfurl in use.  Why not add a little Extra Romance to your Valentine’s Day by making these lovely Evolon roses Evolon is ideal for crafting as it colours well, does not tear or fray and holds its shape beautifully. Our photographs show how the roses can be used, from a single symbolic stem, to a stunning centre piece or to decorate a card. How to Make the Petals Simply colour some Evolon (or Evolon Soft) with red transfer paint and then cut out a series of ‘balloon’ shapes to make the petals (i.e. a softly curved top edge, narrowing to a point at the base). We used 5 or 7 petals in gradually decreasing sizes to […]

What is Evolon?

by Ruth Morgan | July 6, 2014 | Posted in Evolon

Let us explain a little more about Evolon; Evolon is a unique microfilament fabric. Like traditional microfiber, it is soft, light and draping yet remains very strong and long lasting. This impressive microfiber is a real gift to the arts and craft world as it can be painted, cut, sewn, glued sprayed and also with its compact fiber composition, it absorbs moisture, remains breathable and dry’s very quickly. Being strong, light weight, and anti-wrinkle, Evolon is “the” new printing media, with a unique matt artistic look and textile drape.
