Mothers Day Slippers
It’s time for Mum to put her feet up with some lovely new slippers! We used Lutradur XL for the soles as it is our strongest and heaviest grade of Lutradur. We then chose Evolon for the lining and upper sections because it is soft to the touch and colours beautifully. Both materials are easy to cut, machine stitch and have the added advantage that they do not fray! 1. Mothers’ Day Cards
Don’t forget Mothering Sunday is 31st March . . . So why not make a lovely personalised card to give your Mum and show her how creative you can be! Lutradur is ideal for card making as it can be painted, stitched, dyed and also printed. Our cards have been decorated with heart shapes cut out of Lutradur 70 and Lutradur 100. Pink acrylic paint was used to colour the Lutradur 70, while all the words and messages have been printed on to Lutradur 100 (which is slightly thicker) using an ink jet printer. Winter Hedge by Sian Kibblewhite

The close up picture above shows just how beautifully Sian has managed to capture frost glistening in the moonlight. Book Covers by Vivienne Challans
Here’s an idea to personalise your 2019 diary or protect a favourite book . . . They say you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but these covers are so delightful, they can turn even an ordinary notebook into something rather special. Bright, cheerful, fun to make and extremely tactile, each of them is a work of art. Vivienne is a member of the Embroiderers Guild and this is her first contribution to our website, but hopefully not the last! Illuminated Christmas Trees
These lovely little Christmas trees are easy, fun and inexpensive to make. They can be decorated with stick on gems, threaded beads, coloured wire, glitter glue, tinsel, etc. Materials required – Lutradur 70 Acrylic paints Battery operated tea lights (available from Hobbycraft, Wilkinson’s etc) Decorations, such as glitter glue, adhesive glass beads etc. Thin green wire (optional) Here’s how to make them – 1. Christmas Gift Tags
It won’t be long until the 25th December . . . Here are just a few examples of how one of our (very) talented customers has used Zeelon to make a variety of Christmas Gift tags. With a clever combination of colouring, printing, snipping and shaping she has produced some beautiful designs. Aren’t they gorgeous!
Remembrance . . . Lest we forget
Our poppy has been made from transfer painted Zeelon Light which, despite its delicate appearance, is a very strong fabric. The background is a piece of Lutradur 70gsm which has also been coloured and then over printed several times with the phrase ‘Lest we forget’. A simple tribute to the great sacrifices made by those who fought in the war.
Halloween Ideas – Evolon Ghosts
Ghostly goings on . . . Here at Spunart, we’ve been busy making a mobile for Halloween using a pair of wire coat hangers for the frame. We began by designing a cardboard template and cutting out two pieces of Evolon per ghost, which we machine stitched together leaving the bottom section completely open. A small amount of wadding was then put inside each one to give them a lovely soft padded shape. We thought it would be rather fun if our ghosts glowed in the dark, so we painted them with luminous paint, before using a black biro to draw on their eyebrows and fingers. Finally, […]
‘Abstraction’ by Karen Lane
We are delighted to feature another piece of artwork by Karen Lane, a Feltmaker and Textile Artist based in the market town of Horncastle. This is one of her most recent pieces and was made in response to a group challenge, with the theme and title “Abstraction”. In her own words Karen says – “It is purely non-representational. My aim was to create an ethereal look with paint, stitch and lots of texture. The background is acrylic paint on 100gsm Lutradur. Lutradur Landscapes by Sian Kibblewhite
We are delighted to publish two more images of work by Sian Kibblewhite, who is a regular contributor to our website. Sian has been involved with textiles for many years and specialises in creating landscape pictures using various techniques and materials. These images are slightly different from those previously published inasmuch as Sian has used masking tape to divide both scenes, adding a new twist to her work. She begins by colouring the Lutradur with a dilute solution of acrylic paint, using a spray bottle. She then creates a design with pieces of Lutradur, which she cuts using a soldering iron.
