Mothers Day Slippers

by Ruth Morgan | March 14, 2019 | Posted in Evolon, Lutradur

It’s time for Mum to put her feet up with some lovely new slippers! We used Lutradur XL for the soles as it is our strongest and heaviest grade of Lutradur. We then chose Evolon for the lining and upper sections because it is soft to the touch and colours beautifully. Both materials are easy to cut, machine stitch and have the added advantage that they do not fray! 1. Pattern Making/Cutting Out First make a cardboard pattern for each slipper by drawing around either a shoe or slipper. Using Lutradur XL, cut out 4 base shapes (2 per […]

Remembrance . . . Lest we forget

by Ruth Morgan | November 7, 2018 | Posted in Lutradur, Zeelon

Our poppy has been made from transfer painted Zeelon Light which, despite its delicate appearance, is a very strong fabric. The background is a piece of Lutradur 70gsm which has also been coloured and then over printed several times with the phrase ‘Lest we forget’. A simple tribute to the great sacrifices made by those who fought in the war.

Tall Lutradur Vessel by Karen Lane

by Ruth Morgan | June 25, 2018 | Posted in Lutradur

Karen Lane – Feltmaker and Textile Artist Karen was introduced to feltmaking and art quilts four years ago and both have become a real passion. Taking her inspiration from nature, she says her work is quite experimental and involves a lot of “what if . . . ” Although she loves working with natural fabrics and fibres, she often combines them with mixed media including paper, paint and manmade fabrics such as Lutradur. Tall Vessel In the photograph above, the taller piece has been made from Lutradur. In her own words, Karen describes how it she created it – “The body […]

Little Women made with Evolon Soft

by Ruth Morgan | March 7, 2018 | Posted in Evolon

To make our little maids – 1. Cut keyhole shape pieces out of Evolon Soft (two per doll). 2. Colour the cut pieces with transfer paint to give the dolls their colourful dresses. (For instructions on how to do this, please see our video) 3. To add a design, paint a pattern using transfer paints on to a piece of paper and leave to dry. 4. Overprint the base colour with this design by using a warm iron (same method as for the base colour). 5. Sew on tiny beads for the eyes, a stitch or two for the mouth and a special button for a bag. Spotlight on Evolon

by Ruth Morgan | November 24, 2017 | Posted in Evolon

Whether you are new to Evolon or a regular user, here are a few facts about this amazing fabric that you may not know . . . A few insights into the manufacturing process . . . Evolon is a produced using a unique, worldwide patented manufacturing process. It’s production consists of only three components – polyester, polyamide and water. Polyester and polyamide chips are spun into endless filaments,  which are then uniformly laid on a belt. The filaments are then simultaneously split into microfilaments (up to 100 times thinner than a human hair!) and entangled together with high pressure water jets, creating a fabric. No chemical […]

‘Autumn’ by Sylvia Stead using Lutradur

by Ruth Morgan | September 4, 2017 | Posted in Lutradur

This unusual piece was created by Silver Stead and depicts the essence and colours of autumn. The leaves were made from Lutradur 100,  which she hand cut and coloured using acrylic paint in various subtle shades of orange, yellow and brown. When dry, the leaves were attached to a background of Mulberry bark, creating a tactile and interesting composition. As a final touch, Sylvia added some small hand sewn moths. Just a reminder that autumn is on its way! All weights of Lutradur are available from our online shop.

Coffee Cup Sleeve by Wendy Cotterill

by Ruth Morgan | August 7, 2017 | Posted in Evolon, Zeelon

Many coffee shops wrap paper coffee cups with a sleeve to prevent burning your hand, so open out one of these sleeves to use as a template and cut two pieces of Evolon Soft, allowing a 1cm seam allowance all round. Stitch the two pieces together leaving a gap and turn it inside out. Press to complete and machine stitch parallel lines with normal sewing thread. Create either a button and buttonhole to join the two ends, or better still, use some hook and loop (Velcro) tape or pads. This sleeve has been decorated with flowers made out of […]
