Lutradur

Lutradur is a non-woven polyester material.  At first glance, it looks like dressmakers interfacing, but its unique spunwoven structure makes it see through in nature.

It comes in a variety of different weights; the lighter the cloth, the easier it is to see through it.

Spunart currently supply white material in weights of 30gsm,70gsm, l00gsm, 13Ogsm and XL.  Lutradur 70gsm is the only weight that is also available in black.

It is a truly versatile material.  It doesn’t fray, has a slight sheen, is see through can be combined with all other types of material, can be painted, dyed, distressed with a soldering iron or heat gun, glued, stitched, embroidered … there are no limits to what you can do with Lutradur!

It is also suitable for paper arts, such as making books, altered books, card making, Artist’s Trading Cards (ATCs) and postcards.

Embroidered Lampshade by Jackie Cawthray

by Ruth Morgan | March 6, 2017 | Posted in Lutradur

Jackie Cawthray, one of our customers who lives in France, used Lutradur 70gsm to make this delightful lampshade. First, she painted the Lutradur with two thin layers of acrylic paint (which had been diluted so that the colours blended) and then embroidered the fabric from the reverse side, using a variegated cotton knitting yarn. Jackie then cut away the top and burnt the Lutradur with a hot air gun to give the lampshade its distinctive finish. After attaching a few beads, the Lutradur was glued together to form […]

‘Memory’ A Piece by Textile Artist Heather Tilley

by Ruth Morgan | February 28, 2017 | Posted in Lutradur

This intricate piece of textile art was sent into us by the artist Heather Tilley.  It is approximately 33cms x 25cms and Heather tells us it formed part of a screen, a final piece, for the City and Guilds Diploma. The theme was ‘Memory’ and represents time spent playing solo during lunch breaks in the staff room. It was created by printing photographs and painting rectangles on to Lutradur 70gms, which were then embellished with machine stitching in blue, red and yellow thread. The decorative border was formed by melting a series of small random holes around the edge with a soldering iron. To see […]

Lutradur and Zeelon Windmills

by Ruth Morgan | May 31, 2016 | Posted in Lutradur, Zeelon

A Great Idea for Transfer Painted Lutradur & Zeelon Heavy I’d been trying to think of ways to distract our little grandson who is teething at the moment and I came up with these colourful windmills. They make him smile when they whizz round in the breeze, but there’s still no sign of a tooth! Some of these windmills were made from the heaviest Zeelon and the rest using Lutradur 100. It  only takes one A4 sheet of either fabric to make each windmill. The template was made by copying a design off the internet (approximately 12cms x 12cms), Two sets of sails […]
