‘Memory’ A Piece by Textile Artist Heather Tilley

Embroidered artwork on Lutradur, depicting playing cards randomly placed on top of one another.

‘Memory’ by Heather Tilley

This intricate piece of textile art was sent into us by the artist Heather Tilley.  It is approximately 33cms x 25cms and Heather tells us it formed part of a screen, a final piece, for the City and Guilds Diploma. The theme was ‘Memory’ and represents time spent playing solo during lunch breaks in the staff room.
A small section of the artwork, showing the machine stitching in more detail, including the 4 of hearts in red thread and a blue triangle intricately embellised.

A closer view of the varied styles of machine stitching.

It was created by printing photographs and painting rectangles on to Lutradur 70gms, which were then embellished with machine stitching in blue, red and yellow thread. The decorative border was formed by melting a series of small random holes around the edge with a soldering iron.
