‘A Christmas Carol’ by Vivienne Challans

An artistic interpretation of the last few lines uttered by Scrooge including printed words, two male figures, a feather and an angel with outstretched wings.

Vivienne was inspired to make this piece based on the last few words that Scrooge exclaims in Charles Dickens’ famous tale, A Christmas Carol.

The Chairman of the Derbyshire Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild issued the challenge ‘To use A Christmas Carol as a source of inspiration.’ – the results to be exhibited at the Derby Theatre over the festive period.

In her own words, Vivienne says –

“I created this piece using heat transferred dyed Lutradur 100gsm for the background. The words were also printed on heat transferred Lutradur using a printing set and Versacolour printing ink.

The figures were based on sketches and formed using machine embroidery on Solufleece, which I attached to the Lutradur before soaking to dissolve the Solufleece. “

The Derbyshire Embroiderers’ Guild exhibition ‘A Christmas Carol’ will be on display at Derby Theatre from 25 November 2019 until just after Christmas.

If you are visiting the theatre or are in the area, please do come along and see the work, which will be hung in the mezzanine and entrance areas.
