Lutradur Tulips for Easter

A lovely display of multi-coloured Lutradur tulips arranged in a glass, against a deep blue background.

There’s nothing like a few flowers for heralding the start of Spring. These tulips would add a splash of colour to any room and should last a very long time!

We made the petals from Lutradur 30gsm (the lightest weight we supply) and coloured them using Orange, Lemon, Wine Red and Vivid Violet transfer paints.

First, we coloured sheets of ordinary copier paper with transfer paints.
On the left of the picture are four A6 pieces of Lutradur which have been coloured in different shades using transfer paints, namely orange, yellow, violet and wine red. On the right is an iron and in the middle of the photograph is a yellow and black cutting wheel.
 
After cutting the A4 Lutradur into equal sections, we used a hot iron (not steam) to transfer the colour from our painted paper.
Six pieces of orange coloured Lutradur all the same size. Two rectangular strips lie on the left of the photograph. In the centre is a single strip which has been twisted in the middle and on the right are three 'petals', formed by folding the twisted strips of Lutradur over on themselves.
Each piece of Lutradur was then cut into two narrow strips, twisted in the middle and then folded over on to itself ready to form into a petal.

We soon had a colourful array of pieces.

Folding in the lower corners, gave each petal the desired spoon shape.

We attached the petals to stems of plastic coated wire with a few simple stitches.

There are also 3 green leaves cut from Lutradur 70gsm, shaped to resemble those of a tulip.
Some green leaves made from transfer coloured Lutradur 70gsm helped to complete the arrangement.

The leaves were cut from Lutradur 70gsm (a medium weight Lutradur). We then coloured them using Lime Green and Emerald Green transfer paints. (However, we could have used a double thickness of Lutradur 30gsm to achieve a similar result).
