Lutradur in a Variety of Weights
Just recently, we’ve noticed there seems to be some confusion as to how many different weights of Lutradur are available to buy. Some sources say only one or two, whereas we are happy to confirm we stock and supply 5 (yes 5!) different weights, namely 30gsm, 70gsm (white or black), 100gsm, 130gsm and XL and have done for a number of years. As one of the most versatile and easy to use fabrics on the market, Lutradur is a wonderful non-woven material suitable for all manner of projects – just take a look at the examples on our website. ‘Shoreline’ by Sylvia Stead (using Lutradur)
Sylvia created this lovely representation of the sea shore, by incorporating two weights of Lutradur. The pale green ‘foam’ was made from Lutradur 100, coloured with acrylic paint and perforated with holes using a soldering iron. Whereas, she used Lutradur 30 (a much lighter weight) to provide additional texture. The piece is complemented with real seashells covered in a variety of coloured silk threads. ‘Burlesque’ by Karen Lane
We’re delighted to present this latest piece of work sent into us by Karen Lane, a Feltmaker and Textile Artist, who has become a regular and valued contributor to our website. This piece measures 88cms x 48cms and includes various natural fibres, scrim, synthetic fabrics and silk, which have all been machine stitched on to a painted background of Lutradur 70gsm. Karen says the layout is totally random but that (as with any abstract work) we tend to see things that weren’t necessarily planned. In this case, once the red fabric had been applied, Karen saw a Burlesque style […]
Printed Images on Lutradur with Lace Overlay by Heather Tilley
These gorgeous pictures were created by Heather Tilley using sheets of lace sewn on to Lutradur and then passed through an ink jet printer. By covering the Lutradur with lace, the images appear ‘softened’ and where Heather has chosen lace containing a shiny thread, the pictures also have an iridescent quality. Heather says – “The images are from drawings and from photographs which I’ve photoshopped etc, and I’ve adjusted them mainly by using smaller sections of the originals.” “I start by cutting a piece of net/lace slightly larger than an A4 piece of Lutradur, to provide a 1cm overlap all the way round and then […]
Winter Hedge by Sian Kibblewhite
Sian has recently sent us these images of some of her most recent work, where she has used Lutradur for the uppermost layer. The close up picture above shows just how beautifully Sian has managed to capture frost glistening in the moonlight. In her own words, Sian describes how she has achieved these impressive results – “The base fabric has been space dyed, then further embellished with a Lutradur moon and further layered with silk screened cow parsley images using xpandaprint 3D medium on medium weight Lutradur. The Lutradur whilst heated has created a lacey effect and the xpandaprint a […]
Lutradur Landscapes by Sian Kibblewhite
We are delighted to publish two more images of work by Sian Kibblewhite, who is a regular contributor to our website. Sian has been involved with textiles for many years and specialises in creating landscape pictures using various techniques and materials. These images are slightly different from those previously published inasmuch as Sian has used masking tape to divide both scenes, adding a new twist to her work. She begins by colouring the Lutradur with a dilute solution of acrylic paint, using a spray bottle. She then creates a design with pieces of Lutradur, which she cuts using a soldering iron. These are then attached to the […]
Forest Trees & Two Other Pieces by Sian Kibblewhite
We are delighted to share some more examples of work by Textile Artist, Sian Kibblewhite. Sian has been involved in textiles for over 30 years, both as a Middle School Teacher and also a Textile Artist in her own right. She specialises in mixed media landscapes using a variety of techniques and is a regular contributor to our website. Using Lutradur as her base material, Sian describes how she creates her work – “I colour the Lutradur with dilute acrylic paint using a spray bottle . . . I then create the design using cut pieces of Lutradur using a soldering iron. […]
‘Chapel’ by Shelia Dalgleish using Lutradur
Several months ago (January 2016) we featured three landscape pictures by Sheila, which she had created using Lutradur. Sheila has a passion for all forms of textile work and is currently busy planning another exhibition for February next year. However, we are pleased she has found time to send us a few images of some recent work. The first of which is featured above. Sheila was inspired to create this piece of work after attending a wedding in Edinburgh, where she discovered the Chapel of St Albert the Great, a beautiful new building with a striking structure. After taking several photographs, Sheila decided to base her design on […]
