Seahorses by Carolyn Sinclair
We were blown away by these seahorses sent into us by
We first met Carolyn several years ago when attending an exhibition and she made an immediate impression. As a recognised teacher of embroidery machines and embroidery software, Carolyn is one of the experts who writes for the Bernina Blog and both Bernina and Janome UK lend her their machines and software.
Carolyn has a very contemporary approach to her work and says she loves to push the boundaries and explore new materials.
These seahorses were used to demonstrate and teach her regular group of textile artists how to create shaded colour effects and, as you can see from the photographs, they are a perfect example of this technique!
Each seahorse was made from two layers of Lutradur 25gsm (the lightest weight that we stock at Spunart) and cut using a hot stencil tool.
The coral and shell were formed using wire and the rock (the latest edition to this sea inspired theme), was made from Zeelon Heavy, which Carolyn painted and strengthened with wire to support its shape and structure.
If you would like to receive some free samples of our materials, please give us a call on 01332 554610. Alternatively, both Lutradur and Zeelon are available to buy either by the metre or in A4 packs from our online shop.
