Everything you wanted to know about Evolon

What is Evolon
Evolon is a white microfibre cloth made from polyester and nylon, which, with care, can be transfer dyed or coloured. It has the touch and texture of fine suede.

How could I use Evolon
Evolon is ideal to use as a base cloth for any kind of stitch. It is robust, does not fray and quilts beautifully, giving an interesting textural effect. It is rather similar to a very short piled velvet, but much easier to work with. It can be burned with a soldering iron to give the impression of broderie anglaise or cut work. Coloured, it would make an interesting fusible lattice on dimensional pieces.

Evolon is ideal for appliqué, stitched or fused. Unlike velvet, it does not lose its pile when cut, so does not require stitching round the edges.

How can I colour Evolon
Like Lutradur, it is possible to use just bout any type of paint to colour evolon, though acrylics and fabric paints should be thinned down with water to retain the texture of the cloth. Evolon is ideal for use with transfer dyes, though care should be taken not to overheat the cloth by staying in one place for too long. Make sure you experiment with your iron before making a large or complex piece.

Can I use Lutradur and Evolon together
Why not? In fact, Evolon makes a great partner for Lutradur. Use Evolon below the lightweight Lutradur 30 to add texture and visual interest. Appliqué pieces of Evolon with holes burned in it onto the heavier weight Lutradur 100 for a stunning visual effect.
